The audio engine ships inside the installer — no Python, no ffmpeg, no toolchain to set up — so cleanup, analysis and mastering run the moment the app opens. One piece arrives later: the separation model. The first time you split a track into stems it downloads once, and every separation after that is offline on your own CPU. Stem-Aware mastering runs that same separation, so it pulls the same model — whichever of the two you reach for first pays the wait, and the other is already warm. Pro unlocks with a licence key you buy once. macOS comes after Windows, and we are not putting a date on it until the Windows build is solid.

macOS follows Windows. No date promised until the Windows build is solid.
First launch on Windows
Windows will stop the installer the first time you run it. You get a full-screen blue panel reading “Windows protected your PC — Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting”, and the only button on it says Don't run. That is expected. Here is the way through:
- 01Click More info — the small link under the message text.
- 02Click Run anyway, which appears once you do.
- 03Install as normal. Windows does not ask again on that machine.
Why it happens. SmartScreen waves through installers that carry a code-signing certificate with enough download history behind it. GRIDWERK’s first Windows build carries neither: a certificate takes money and paperwork, and the reputation that sits on top of it is earned one install at a time — so early builds get warned about no matter who ships them. We would rather put the app in your hands now than sit on it waiting for a counter to tick over. The warning means Windows has not seen this file before. It is not a malware finding.
Don’t take our word for it. Every build is published on this page
with its SHA-256. Check the file you downloaded against it before you run anything —
certutil -hashfile GRIDWERK-Setup.exe SHA256 in any terminal. Signed builds
land in a 1.x update and the warning disappears on its own.
Before you install
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Roughly 3 GB of disk for the install, most of it the bundled audio engine, plus whatever the stem-separation models take once you fetch them. macOS comes after Windows.
- Your files stay on your machine. GRIDWERK reads your DAW projects and samples locally; nothing is uploaded.
